4 Macroscopic Modelling and Simulation

In addition to the microscopic modelling and its simulation, we also consider the macroscopic modelling. As we want to compensate the effects of the deep-hole drilling process onto the whole workpiece, a macroscopic view is preferable. For this purpose, we reformulate the material modelling.

We carry the ideas of MQL, which are presented in Sects. 2.1 and 2.2, forward and fit our model to the macroscopic level. The comparatively high input of heat can lead to thermally induced deviations. This is an elastic deformation and influence of the plasticity vanishes in this context. Hence, we use a thermoelastic model and respectively mixed elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations.

For the numerical investigations two different FE-software tools were used, namely the commercial program Ansys and the open source library deal.II, cf. [3]. The first one was used for initial simulations, whereas the latter asserts itself useful, since it provides parallelisation tools as well as the possibility to integrate other aspects presented in subsequent paragraphs.

First results are published in [5]. We give a résumé of the model, which was presented therein.
